The Plot
Machine and Magic At War
Machine and Magic At War
For centuries magic was a large part of the lives of those within the world. It made growing crops easy, it took the pain away from the neighbors aching knees, and lastly, kept those that threatened their lives at bay. Magic was everywhere. It was in the air, the water, and the very essence of every human being. But as times changed so did the children. Little by little, magic bleed out of the young with each generation. The reason behind it was unknown for a short time but as time kept going it became apparent to what was happening. People once could speak with nature and now those that had lost the ability, speak a different language called Technology. They gathered knowledge from new books, took to building strange machines with their hands. It didn't take long for magic to become a thing of the past. Still, as technology grew to a more modern state, magic remained. It was as rare as a pure Albino Humpback Whale in the wild but it was there lurking in the depths. It might never be seen by those searching for it, but it was their all around them.
Magic no longer cured the ill or healed bones, limbs could now be replaces with machine parts. It was quick and painless. No one person had to sit there for hours healing a bone and vehicles came into existence and hydroponics. Good buy ponies and the old tradition of farming! It seemed the new and old could maybe work together for a bright future. But, it wasn't until the year 2500 that things changed forever in the city of Dagos. Magic was now looked down upon and grew into a distaste for the general public. It was taboo to perform magic in public or private for that matter, most considered such an act to be considered the same as fleshing your privates in public, or worse, at children. As the years past, magic users disappeared, especially among the humans. Though the capacity for it was there none bothered to harness the raw power and it was lost forever.
However, not everyone refused to conform with the new way life was taking. There was a few who choose to remain true to the old ways and those individuals were called, Magi. Derived from humans, these beings took magic into their bodies and harnessed it and in doing so become something different. Looked down upon in with disgrace and shame; their features took on a more unnatural appearance from channeling the essence around them. Horns grew from their skull, legs morphed into animalistic appearance or tree like. New eye colors emerged that seemed unnatural, claws and scales, the look was unending. But at times, a Magi would be born with the look of a mere human with only a slight difference. Blending in was impossible and while the ones who could blend in took less heat those that looked different where looked upon with fear and distaste. Some say the Magi carried the gift of the old Gods within them and others declared them freaks of nature.
It wasn't long before the humans saw the Magi as a threat to their way of life. Magic was no longer needed in a word such as their own--nor was that strange appearance. They began by ostracizing those who where different, shutting them out, not allowing them in certain stores, and segregation within their schools. It wasn’t long before things turned violent with a single Magi doing or saying the wrong phrases. Finding a Magi beaten in the streets was as common as a fresh apple pie in a window ceil. No one batted an eye when one was kicked out or refused a job. Soon, Magi had either left the city or stayed within its walls to complete the more demoraeling jobs that humans did not want. Though some could take refuge with kinder folk, they didn’t stay for long nor did families remain together. Children where born and abandoned and at worse, killed or merely ‘disappeared’ into the night. This discrimination and death went on for years until finally, the camels back was broken.
The Magi had enough of the human’s disgusting ideals and fought back at first with words and when that failed, action took place. Unfornately, this did little to help matters as during a heated argument a human was killed swiftly. That set the world in a new course, their rebellion against the humans who had mistreatment and violently harmed them had suddenly turned against them.
At then end of 2700, the Hunter Guild was created to help monitor and settle any disruptions among the two societies. They where to find a peaceful way to settle the disputes but the death of members of the human race was heavy on their minds. Unfortunately, the Guild viewed this as open hunting season as many of the recruited members and founding father were against the Magi. No one batted an eye or spoke out against such a thing. 95% of the population was for this new way of dealing with the Magi. By 2750 sixty percent of the Magi population was cut down while the human‘s suffered many great losses their population was dented but not as badly as the opposing forces. In fear of becoming extinct, the Magi came to terms with the Hunters. A compromise was created in order to restore order and build a tolerance for the two factions. All attacks came to a halt in the year 2760. The truce that was established between the two forces was the death of the Magi head figures that held opposing thoughts, positions, and overall ill will of the Humans. These three Magi were executed through beheading, their bodies removed and never seen again. However, there is a rumor of their skin later being found floating down stream.
Lift was taken with a grain of salt and life did not improve for the Magi. Sure, it got a little better and they were allowed in certain areas but the racist thoughts and ideals still strongly existed. But there was nothing the Magi could do. Now, it’s 2800, 40 years have past and the Magi are under threat once again. Their truce is on the urge of snapping in half with the young Magi refusing to bow down to the humans as a new political figure has come to power. At first Magi have thought it was a good thing to see a new face in the mix but that soon came to despair. The new political figure saw the mere population of the Magi to be inhuman, if not animals, to the point that even an Android was seen above them with their higher intelligence and strength. To further make this point in speaking out against the lower class, the figure announced a new law that was going to be submitted that would require all Magi to be bar-coded with their personal information and with a registration number in order to keep track of their numbers, lower the chance of interracial marriages, and keeping them separate from others. They would have fewer freedoms then they would now and would even have to consider to have a Cyborg or Human master to keep them in check.
The younger generation didn't like this new rumored law or the things that went with it and so, they took it in their own hands. Two weeks before the law would be handed out to be looked at the political man was murdered in his sleep. His throat slashed and home burnt down. The sudden death brought out an outcry among the population and even a larger outcry when the body of a child was found among the rubble. Apparently, the man had a family who had suffered the same fate.
The sudden murder of the family snapped the truce among the races and the hunt was on. Hunters where now on the prowel, looking for any reason to beat those that opposed their race and social norms. With another genocide on the edge of breaking out everyone has put up their guard and good face. Magi have a curfew to be home before midnight unless otherwise stated from their place of employment or hospital. Too bad for the Hunters though, as there is a small group building up to fight back.
